This notice is for parents and legal guardians. It explains what information OpenSchool collects about your child, how we use it, and the choices you have. It is our direct notice to you under the US Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and similar laws. Please read it before your child starts learning with Luna.
Who we are
OpenSchool is a trading name of Select Entry Accelerator Pty Ltd, which makes Luna, an AI tutor for homeschooling families. You can reach us at support@openschool.ai, on +61 490 824 414, or by post at 7150 E Camelback Rd Unit 444, Scottsdale, AZ 85251, United States.
Why we collect your child's information
Luna needs to know how your child is doing in order to teach them well. Everything we collect about your child is used to give them lessons at the right level, track their progress, and report that progress to you.
What we collect about your child
- Their first name and the grade they are working at, which you give us when you set up the account.
- Your answers to our setup questions about how they learn, including anything you choose to tell us about a learning difference such as ADHD, dyslexia or autism. You can skip that question. If you answer it, we use it only to tailor how Luna teaches your child.
- Their answers, written work, placement and assessment results, and progress.
- Their conversations with Luna: what they type or say to her, and what she says back. Spoken words are converted to text, as described under Voice.
- Any worksheets, photos or documents they upload, and the text we read from them.
- Technical information such as device type and errors, and recordings of how the app is used, as described under Session recordings below.
We ask for no more information than Luna needs to teach your child, and we never make their participation depend on giving us more than that.
We do not collect your child's date of birth, address, phone number or photos of them, and we never ask them for contact details.
Voice
When your child speaks to Luna, what they say is turned into text and kept as part of their lesson history. We never record or store your child's voice. Luna listens only while a voice lesson is active. We may keep audio of Luna's own voice so a lesson can be replayed.
Session recordings
To improve Luna's teaching, we record what appears on the screen during lessons: the whiteboard, Luna's words, and the conversation transcript shown on screen, which includes what your child said to Luna as text. Anything your child types is hidden in the recording. Members of our team watch these recordings to see where Luna or the app went wrong. The recordings are tied to your account, not to a profile of your child, they are deleted automatically after 30 days, and only staff who need them for this purpose can open them. We never use them for advertising, to contact your child, or for anything other than making Luna better. Your child's voice is not recorded.
How we use it
To run and personalize your child's lessons, to measure their progress, to report to you, to answer your support requests, and to keep the Service safe and working. We review some lessons to check that Luna taught well and behaved appropriately.
What we do not do
We do not sell your child's information. We do not use it to train AI models. We do not show your child advertising or use their information for marketing. We do not share it with anyone other than the service providers below, unless the law requires it or a child's safety is at risk.
Our website uses advertising measurement tools, but they are on the pages you visit as a parent, never in your child's lessons, and they never receive anything about your child.
We never use your child's name, work or voice in our marketing without your written permission.
Service providers
To run OpenSchool we use companies that process information for us and only on our instructions: an identity provider for sign-in, a payment provider for your subscription, cloud hosting, the AI and voice technology that powers Luna, an email provider, and error-monitoring and quality tools. They may not use your child's information for their own purposes.
How long we keep it
Our retention policy for your child's information is this. We keep it for as long as your account is active, because Luna needs your child's history to teach them well. We do not keep it for any longer than is reasonably necessary for that purpose. When you delete the account, or withdraw consent, we erase your child's profile, lessons, work, results and conversations. Session recordings are deleted automatically after 30 days. Limited technical records may be kept by our monitoring providers for a short period for security and quality purposes. We keep only a record that consent was given: the date and which version of these documents was agreed to, without your child's name or any other details.
Your rights as a parent
At any time you can:
- review the information we hold about your child;
- ask us to correct or delete it;
- refuse to let us collect any more, which means your child will no longer be able to use Luna; or
- withdraw the consent you gave when you created the account.
Email support@openschool.ai from the address on the account and we will act on your request within 30 days. We may ask you to confirm your identity first.
Your consent
When you create the account we collect your email address so that we can give you this notice and ask for your consent. Before your child uses Luna, we ask you to confirm that you are their parent or legal guardian and that you consent to this notice, including the session recordings described above. We keep a record of that consent, including when you gave it.
If you do not complete consent, we will not let your child use Luna, and we will delete the information collected at sign-up within 14 days.
Changes
If we change what we collect about children or how we use it in a way that matters, we will tell you by email and ask for your consent again before continuing.
